The United States Virgin Islands, located in the Caribbean, consist of a group of islands. It's an insular area which means the islands are not part of one of the 50 U.S. States or the District of Columbia. The economy of the United States Virgin Islands is based mainly on tourism and manufacturing. Around one-fifth of the total land is cultivable. The chief crops cultivated for local consumption include citrus fruits, bananas, tamarinds, mangoes, sorghum and vegetables. Main livestock are cattle, sheep and goats. Main industries are tourism, petroleum refining, watch assembly, construction, pharmaceuticals, textiles and electronics. |
